SAN ANTONIO — Forwards Sebastian Poblete and Eduardo Fernandez combined for six shots on goal as the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team defeated Texas A&M-San Antonio 3-1 on Saturday night at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
 
Fernandez (San Antonio) and Poblete (Kendall West, Fla.), both sophomores for the Rattlers, each scored a goal and saw six of their seven combined shots on goal. The third goal came off the foot of freshman Lewis Boney (Leeds, Yorkshire, England), as he showcased his speed in the physical contest.
 
Poblete started the scoring for the Rattlers, taking a pass from senior Jeth Flores (Missouri City, Texas) and beating a defender into the box in the 11th minute for the 1-0 lead. The Jaguars answered in the 29th minute, but Fernandez gave the lead back to the Rattlers just before halftime, scoring on a rebound off a saved shot attempted by sophomore Sean Borland (Glasgow, Scotland) in the 44th minute.
 
Boney put the game away in the 78th minute, scoring a header on a corner kick from sophomore Dyllan Mendoza (San Antonio) for the team's first victory of the season.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Nichita Misac (Lisbon, Portugal) made three saves in each half, as he faced 15 total shots from the Jaguars. 
 
Freshman Micah Cox (Denton, Texas) made the first appearance of his collegiate career, playing the final two minutes of the game.
 
The Rattlers remain at home, hosting Sul Ross State in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Lobos are 0-3 after dropping a 1-0 contest at Texas A&M International on Saturday afternoon.
