DALLAS — The St. Mary's University Volleyball team struggled offensively in a four-set loss at UT Dallas on Wednesday, falling 21-25, 13-25, 25-23, 20-25.
The Rattlers (9-6, 2-3) hit only .142 for the match, the second-lowest of the season and the lowest since the season opener against Southern Connecticut State, while the Comets (7-6, 3-1) managed to hit .272 for the night with eight blocks.
Freshman
Madyson Carr (Houston) matched her career-high in kills, getting eight kills on 14 swings for a match-high .571 hitting percentage. Graduate student
Laurene Robinson (Bedford, Texas) led the team with 15 kills and added a double-double with 13 digs. Senior
Haleigh Wilk (Salado, Texas) also added a double-double with 39 assists and 13 digs, while junior libero
Kaylee Cavazos (San Antonio) led the team with 16 digs and senior
Olivia Rubio (San Antonio) posted a team-high four blocks.
Scarlette Young led the Comets with 20 kills, while libero Avery Gray had a match-high 27 digs.
Both teams had six service aces on the night, while the Rattlers only committed five errors. It is the fifth time this year the team has collected more aces than errors.
St. Mary's has a quick turnaround, as they come home to host Texas A&M International on Friday at 6 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena. A reminder for fans attending the match on Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville that there will be a 5K on campus (weather permitting), so university exits will be closed at 5 p.m.
