SAN ANTONIO — The cardiac kids struck again as the St. Mary's University Volleyball team won its third five-set match of the season, defeating Texas Woman's in the LSC Challenge and home opener. The Rattlers won 25-14, 17-25, 14-25, 26-24, 15-12 to improve to 6-3 overall.

The crowd of 242 fans helped lift the Rattlers, as the majority of those in attendance were fellow student-athletes and created a fantastic atmosphere that spurred the comeback victory. On the court, graduate student Laurene Robinson came alive in the fourth and fifth sets, recording 10 of her match-high 17 kills in those two sets. 

Another big factor in the win for the Rattlers was a career-high 26 digs by junior Kaylee Cavazos. She led all players in the match and bettered her previous career-high of 22 from earlier this year against Ursuline (Aug. 28).

Junior Taylor Alston (San Antonio) was second on the club with 15 kills and posted a match-high three aces, while Robinson and senior Haleigh Wilk (Salado, Texas) both collected double digits in digs with 11 and 12, respectively. Wilk also added 45 assists and tied her career-high with six kills.

Senior Olivia Rubio (San Antonio) didn't get a ton of swings on the night, but made the most of her chances, recording five kills and adding a match-high six blocks. The biggest blocks of the night were by freshman Madyson Carr (Houston), though, as she paired once with Robinson and once with sophomore Sonia Bojarska (Warsaw, Poland) for the team's 12th and 13th points of the fifth set, breaking the 11-11 tie, and StMU went on to win 15-12 in the deciding set.

St. Mary's has now won three straight matches and is 3-3 in five-set matches this season and 6-3 overall. The Rattlers will play UT Tyler on Saturday at 1 p.m., while the Pioneers will take on the Patriots at 6 p.m. in Bill Greehey Arena on Friday at 6 p.m. as part of the LSC Challenge.
