FRISCO, Texas — Despite a well-balanced scoring attack in which anyone on the roster can take over on any given night, the St. Mary's University Men's Basketball team had three players earn Lone Star All-Conference honors in a vote by the league's head coaches.
Senior guard
Damani Claxton (Bronx, N.Y.) was named to the First-Team for the second-straight year, becoming the first two-time First-Team All-Lone Star pick in school history, and the first to earn First-Team honors twice since Kevin Kotzur was named all four years in the Heartland Conference (2010-13). In two years at St. Mary's, Claxton has scored 919 points, and he leads the team this year with 13.9 points and 3.1 assists per game. Claxton also leads the league and ranks 38th in the nation, shooting 87.2 percent at the free throw line.
Senior
Olaverr Camacho (Barberena, Santa Rosa, Guatemala) joined the Rattlers for his final season and made quite an impact, leading the team with six double-doubles in earning Second-Team All-Conference honors, as well as All-Defensive team for the second time in his career. He was also named to the All-Defensive team in 2023 while at Texas A&M International. Camacho averages 9.5 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game, and leads the team with 24 blocked shots.
Junior
Justin Britt (Goose Creek, S.C.) was an honorable mention selection after finishing the regular season second on the team with 10.6 points per game. He also averages 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 78.2 percent from the free throw line. He has scored at least four points in all 28 games and has had multiple rebounds in 27 of 28.
Lubbock Christian's Amondo Miller Jr. was named the league's Player of the Year, while Xavion Brown from DBU earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Ryder Bradley from St. Edward's was voted the Freshman of the Year, Antonio Pusateri from LCU is the Newcomer of the Year, and DBU's TJ Thomas is the Sixth Man. Mark Bunker from Western New Mexico earned the Coach of the Year after guiding his team to a fourth-place finish and their first appearance in the LSC Tournament.
The Rattlers face the upstart Mustangs in the quarterfinals of the tournament at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5.
