THIS WEEK IN RATTLERS TENNIS
Feb. 10 • at Our Lady of the Lake • 12:30 p.m. • OLLU Tennis Courts

•    The St. Mary's Women's Tennis Team heads across town for a 12:30 meeting with Our Lady of the Lake on Tuesday. The Rattlers are coming off a 3-1 week.

•    The Rattlers then have a two-week layoff, hoping the injury bug that has bitten the team has time to clear away, as the team played with only five players through the first four matches.

•    Senior Gia Posito and junior Selina Wu were a perfect 4-0 in both singles and doubles last week. Wu won all four matches at number one singles and doubles, including an upset of Division I Eastern Washington's Anait Arutiunian, 6-7 (1), 7-5, [10-7]. Posito won one match at each ladder position 2-5, and won the last three matches without dropping a game. At #5 she defeated the Eagles, 6-3, 6-4.

•    Freshmen Isabella Olsson and Sarah Wooten are both riding three-match winning streaks in singles play after winning all three on Friday and Saturday in straight sets. Freshman Breeze Simon won Saturday against Schreiner and received forfeit victories against both McMurry and Howard Payne.

•    St. Mary's is a perfect 6-0 all-time against Our Lady of the Lake, and are 2-0 at OLLU Tennis Courts. A season ago, the Rattlers won 7-0 over the Saints.

•    Five Rattlers were named to the Lone Star Commissioner's Honor Roll at the conclusion of the fall semester, and Madalyn Smelley recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA. Janel Ospanova, Gia Posito, Alessia Terlizzi and Sarah Wooten were also honored on the team.

•    Gia Posito and Alessia Terlizzi advanced to the doubles final at the ITA South Central Regional before losing to the Midwestern State team in the finals. The pair went 4-1 over the tournament, only dropping eight games in their four wins.

•    Selina Wu won the consolation draw at the ITA South Central Regional. After being upset in her opening round, Wu won four of the five in straight sets and only dropped one game in the final, defeating Luisa Moraes from UT Tyler, 6-0, 6-1. In 2024, Wu made the quarterfinals in singles and semifinals in doubles after making the finals in 2023 as a freshman.

•    The Rattlers played three exhibition matches against Division I opponents in January and senior Alessia Terlizzi won all three singles matches at line one, defeating the top player from UIW, UTSA and Texas State.
