Olaverr Camacho scored a career-high 17 points in the Men's Basketball 70-53 victory at Texas A&M International on Thursday night.
Camacho, a forward from Barberena, Santa Rosa, Guatemala, spent three seasons with the Dustdevils (7-14, 4-9), playing two. On Thursday for the Rattlers, he was 7-for-9 from the floor for a team-high 17 points, and he tied for team-high honors with seven rebounds. He betters his previous high of 15 points, scored while he was a Dustdevil, against Southwest Adventist on Dec. 15, 2022.
Camacho led a quartet of Rattlers (15-5, 8-4) in double-digit scoring, as senior
Wayne Wiggins (Mansfield, Texas) scored 13, junior
Justin Britt (Goose Creek, S.C.) totaled 11, and senior
Eddie McPhee (Denver, Colo.) added 10. Senior guard
Damani Claxton (Bronx, N.Y.) led the game with five assists, and Wiggins had a game-high three steals, while Britt tied Camacho with seven boards.
Caylen Goff Brown led TAMIU with 18 points, including four on the first play of the game as he was fouled on a three-pointer. Aidan Williams came off the bench to chip in 16 and lead the team with eight rebounds.
The Rattlers led for over 28 minutes during the game, scoring 42 of their 70 points in the paint. StMU also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding TAMIU 32 to 25.
It is the third-straight win for the Rattlers, and the second consecutive by over 15 points. StMU has won nine of its 15 games this season by 10 or more points.
The Rattlers will face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Kingsville. The Javelinas lost 80-75 to St. Edward's on Thursday.
