Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Last Minute Goal Keeps Men's Soccer Undefeated in LSC Action

This game recap is brought to you by Tera Moving Services

SAN ANTONIO – With a little more than one minute left on the clock, the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team regained possession of the ball and scored with 58 ticks remaining for the 1-0 win over the University of Texas-Tyler on Wednesday night to remain undefeated in Lone Star Conference play.

The Rattlers improve to 8-3 on the year and 4-0 in Lone Star play with the victory while the Patriots fall to 2-5-4 overall and 0-4-1 in league play.

Sophomore Sean Borland (Glasgow, Scotland) started in the defensive third down the far sideline, passed to graduate student Filipe Bastos (Santa Maria de Faria, Portugal) in the middle of the pitch, who found sophomore Sebastian Poblete (Kendall West, Fla.) and he blasted the ball into the back of the net from about 25 yards out for the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Nichita Misac (Lisbon, Portugal) made three saves on the night, while the defensive presence of senior Pape Gueye (San Antonio) and sophomore Lucas Cobo (Chavannes Des Bois, Switzerland) kept the Patriots from putting too much pressure on Misac.

St. Mary's out-shot UT Tyler 16-to-9 in the game, and had seven corner kicks compared with four for the Patriots and both teams ended with three saves.

This marks the third time in Lone Star Conference history that the Rattlers have started conference play 4-0, joining the 2021 and 2024 teams, which both went on to win the LSC regular season title.

The Rattlers head out on the road on Saturday, playing at Texas A&M International at 7 p.m. The Dustdevils lost 2-0 in Austin on Wednesday night at St. Edward's.
