Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 20 Men's Basketball Drops First Home Game of the Season

SAN ANTONIO — Despite crashing the boards hard for a season-best 52 rebounds, the No. 20 St. Mary's University Men's Basketball team was unable to turn them into enough points to defeat No. 8 Lubbock Christian, losing at home for the first time this season, 66-58.

The Rattlers (10-3, 3-2 LSC) struggled shooting the ball, connecting on only 30.6 percent of its shots for the game, and only 23.8 percent from beyond the arc (5-for-21) on Sunday evening.

Senior Wayne Wiggins (Mansfield, Texas) continued his strong start to the 2026 calendar year, leading the team with 13 points, two assists and two steals. Senior Olaverr Camacho (Barberena, Santa Rosa, Guatemala) led the team with 10 rebounds, while Eddie McPhee (Denver, Colo.) and Justin Britt (Goose Creek, S.C.) each grabbed nine. Wiggins was the only Rattler to hit double digits in the scoring column.

StMU had 27 of its season-high rebounds on the offensive end of the floor and turned it into 18 second chance points. The defense limited the Chaps (14-2, 5-1 LSC) to six offensive rebounds and only two second chance points.

The 52 total rebounds by St. Mary's are the highest total since a double overtime win against UT Tyler on Feb. 6, 2025, saw the Rattlers grab 54. It is the seventh-most rebounds by StMU in a game at Bill Greehey Arena in school history.

Lubbock Christian held the lead for 28:23, leading by as many as 12 late in the second half. The Rattlers led by five points with 13:13 remaining in the first half for their biggest edge of the afternoon.

The schedule remains tough for the Rattlers as they head out on the road to take on No. 24 Eastern New Mexico on Thursday before facing No. 14 West Texas A&M on Saturday. It is the first time in the school's DII history they will face three nationally-ranked opponents in a row. The 2016-17 team played three of four against teams in the top 20.
