RICHARDSON, Texas — The Lone Star Conference announced the first weekly awards for 2025 and St. Mary's University Men's Soccer seniors
Luke Mulkey and
Johnny Thurbin were named the Defensive and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
Mulkey, a defender from Parker, Texas, helped fuel a pair of shutouts against ranked opponents on the road to begin the season. Mulkey, who is the LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, led a unit that surrendered just seven shots over a draw with No. 3 Colorado State-Pueblo and a 1-0 victory against No. 17 Colorado-Colorado Springs.
Thurbin (Lingfield, Surrey, England) posted back-to-back shutouts on the road to open the season at No. 3 Colorado State-Pueblo and No. 17 UCCS. Thurbin, who is the LSC Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, had four stops in a 0-0 draw against CSU Pueblo and three in a 1-0 win over UCCS. He played all 180 minutes. He moved into a tie for third all-time at St. Mary's with 13 shutouts, knotting Ray Macias (1981-84). Thurbin also climbed one spot into sole possession of third place in career wins with 18, passing Brett Collier (2006-09).
It is the third weekly award of Thurbin's career and the second for Mulkey. The Rattlers open the home portion of the schedule on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they host No. 6 Fort Lewis at 4 p.m.
