PUEBLO, Colo. — Mother Nature provided plenty of special effects in the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer season opener at No. 3 Colorado State-Pueblo, delaying the game approximately 45 minutes in the second half with lightning strikes in the area.
Neither team was able to break through the other's defense, resulting in a 0-0 draw. Both goalkeepers recorded a pair of saves in the first half, while there were no shots on goal in the second period.
The Thunderwolves outshot the Rattlers 8-to-6 and recorded six corner kicks compared to two for StMU. CSUP was also whistled for 13 fouls, with eight going against StMU.
"Both teams tried to play good football," said Head Coach
Johnny Clifford. "It felt like one of those early season games when teams are still figuring out their identity. I thought we played better in the second half and could have taken it at the end, but it was a hard fought, competitive game."
Senior goalkeeper
Johnny Thurbin (Lingfield, Surrey, England), senior defender
Luke Mulkey (Parker, Texas), junior
Ricky Alvarez (Dripping Springs, Texas), freshman
