SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's University senior goalkeeper
Haley Faucette made a season-high seven saves on a busy day in net, but No. 5 DBU was able to score three goals late to remain undefeated on the season and ruin the Rattlers' conference home opener, 3-0.
St. Mary's, limited to a season low seven shots, dropped to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Patriots improved to 6-0 on the year and 2-0 in league action.
Faucette, a senior transfer from Burlington, N.C., kept the high-octane Patriots off the scoreboard for the first 63 minutes of the game, until Kenzi Tufts scored on a penalty kick in the 64th minute. Two minutes later, a DBU corner kick resulted in the team's second goal, and they added a third off another corner in the 85th minute to defeat the Rattlers for the 23rd consecutive time.
Junior
Elena Kossler (Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria) and freshman
Marily Garza Contreras (Duncanville, Texas) each collected one shot on goal. Kossler led the team with three total shots, while senior
Ana Parra (San Antonio) added two more. The Patriots outshot the Rattlers 22-to-7 on the afternoon.
The Rattlers remain at home, hosting #25 Texas Woman's on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Pioneers are also 6-0 on the year and 2-0 in league action after defeating Sul Ross State 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
