SAN ANTONIO — The No. 17 St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team has squared off with a pair of top-10 opponents twice already in 2025 and has drawn even with both, tying No. 9 Fort Lewis 1-1 on Saturday evening.
"I thought it was a really good game today," said Head Coach
Johnny Clifford. "But it was a tale of two halves. In the first half, I thought we were excellent, but credit to Fort Lewis for coming out so strong in the second. I didn't see them having the energy they produced and I give them credit for getting themselves back in the game."
The Rattlers (1-0-2) broke onto the scoreboard first in the 24th minute. Senior defender
Luke Mulkey (Parker, Texas) punted a ball from the near side of the field to just outside the box on the far side to senior
Andrick Ferrer (Buffalo, N.Y.), who stepped around a defender to pass the ball to freshman
Ryan Guillaume (Trélex, Vaud, Switzerland), who sent the ball flying into the top right corner of the net from 20 yards out for the first goal of his career.
The score remained 1-0 until the 68th minute when Alessio Andreottola stole the ball and drove 20 yards to find the bottom right corner of the net and equalize the score at 1-1. The Skyhawks (1-0-2) outshot the Rattlers 15-to-10 in the game, including a 12-to-2 margin in the second half, and they took all three corner kicks in the contest.
Senior goalkeeper
Johnny Thurbin (Lingfield, Surrey, England) made a pair of saves, both in the first half, while the Rattlers managed six shots on goal, also all coming in the first half.
The Rattlers will play at No. 24 Midwestern State in a rematch of the 2024 Lone Star Conference Tournament Finals on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. StMU will also play No. 11 Rogers State on Friday in Wichita Falls.
