LUBBOCK, Texas — The No. 44 St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team snapped a six-match winning streak at No. 19 Lubbock Christian on Thursday morning, falling 5-2.

The Rattlers are now 10-2 on the season and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Lady Chaps move to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in league action.

The two teams battled down to the wire for the doubles point. LCU took the set on court one, but the Rattlers answered with a 6-4 win by senior
Paula Garrote (Cartagena, Spain) and junior Alessi Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) on court three, placing all eyes on line two.

The two duos went back and forth, needing a tiebreaker to decide the winner. The pair of Anastasiia Opolska and Anamaria Zoric scored the final two points over sophomores
Gia Posito (Houston) and
Selina Wu (San Gabriel, Calif.) for the 7-6 (8-6) victory.

Wu remained undefeated in conference play, improving to 10-1 in duals with her 6-3, 6-1 victory at one singles.

Terlizzi also posted a straight-sets win on court three, 7-5, 6-2, to move to 11-1 on the season and 3-0 in league action.

The Lady Chaps won lines four through six in straight sets, and pulled out a late three-set win at number two, as sophomore
Janel Ospanova (Karaganda, Kazakhstan) dropped a close, 4-6, 6-2, 0-1 (7-10) decision.

The Rattlers play at UT Permian Basin on Saturday. The match has been moved to 10 a.m. to try to beat the inclement weather scheduled for later in the day.
