LAWTON, Okla. — A season-high six home runs helped give the St. Mary's Baseball team a run-rule victory on Sunday at Cameron, 14-4.
Nine of the Rattlers' (26-16, 24-16) 14 runs came via the long ball, and senior
Easton Parrish (La Vernia, Texas) left the yard twice, doing so in both the third and fourth innings. Junior
Garrett Brooks (Spring Branch, Texas) hit the first one in the game, as he and Parrish went back-to-back in the third frame. It is the first time this season the Rattlers have hit home runs in consecutive at bats. Junior
Jaxon Daigre (Pinehurst, Texas), senior
Brendan Concannon (Flower Mound, Texas), senior
Jacob King (San Antonio) all added to the total.
The win gives the Rattlers a 3-1 series win over the Aggies (13-27), the ninth time (in 10) this year StMU has either split or won a series.
Concannon went 4-for-4 out of the leadoff position, driving in three runs and scoring twice. He also drew a walk. Brooks, Parrish, King, Daigre,
Raithen Malone (Mont Belvieu, Texas), and
Matt Mendez (Natalia, Texas) all had two hit days as the Rattlers pounded out 18 hits.
Sophomore
Matthew Janecek (Houston) got his first start on the hill this season, improving to 3-1 on the year. He gave up three runs on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Junior
Matt Sandoval (Uvalde, Texas) worked a scoreless sixth inning, striking out one, and freshman
Derek Maples (San Antonio) gave up one run on two hits, and struck out the side in the seventh.
The Rattlers had at least one base runner in all seven innings, scoring one in the first, four in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth. Janecek kept the Aggies off the scoreboard until the fourth. It marks the third run-rule victory this season for the Gold and Blue.
St. Mary's hosts UT Permian Basin next week. The series will begin on Thursday due to Easter weekend, and the Rattlers will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday before the start of the series finale. The Falcons are 15-26 on the year and most recently split the series against Oklahoma Christian.
