WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Due to time constraints, the St. Mary's University Women's Tennis match against Palm Beach Atlantic was called after a winner was confirmed, giving the Rattlers a 4-0 victory over the Sailfish on Wednesday morning.
The Rattlers improve to 6-1 on the season with the victory and have two matches remaining on the Spring Break trip in IUP on Thursday and Ferris State on Friday.
"This was a good road win for us," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "Doubles improved a little, and playing a clinch format gave them a bit of pressure and a sense of what the conference tournament format is like at the end of the semester."
The number one and three doubles teams of
Janel Ospanova (Karaganda, Kazakhstan) and
Stela Sifuentes (Eagle Pass, Texas) and
Gia Posito (Houston) and
Selina Wu (San Gabriel, Calif.) both won 6-1, while the pair of
Paula Garrote (Cartagena, Spain) and
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) won 6-4.
Sifuentes made quick work of her match at line six, dropping only one game for the 6-0, 6-1 victory, while Terlizzi posted a double-bagel victory at three-singles. Posito clinched the win on court five, beating her opponent 6-2, 6-3.
Ospanova and Garrote were both within one game of winning in straight sets on courts two and four, while Wu was early in the second set after dropping the opener 7-5.
