SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team kept things rolling with a 7-0 shutout over Louisiana Christian on Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-0 on the year.
All six singles players won in straight sets, while two of the three doubles teams won with multiple breaks of serve.
The number three doubles team of
Paula Garrote (Cartagena, Spain) and
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) got a late break of serve to win 7-5 to complete the sweep before the attention turned to singles.
Sophomore
Gia Posito (Houston) was extremely efficient at number five singles, losing only one game for the second team point. Junior
Stela Sifuentes (Eagle Pass, Texas) also won her first set 6-1 and won set two by a score of 6-3.
Sophomore
Selina Wu (San Gabriel, Calif.) clinched the team victory with her 6-3, 6-1 decision on court one. Garrote concluded her match next with a 6-3, 6-0 win at line four.
Janel Ospanova (Karaganda, Khazakhstan) was on court two and posted identical set wins of 6-3, while Terlizzi fought through a second-set tiebreak, 7-4 for her straight-sets victory.
The Rattlers head out on a seven-match, nine-day Spring Break road trip, beginning at Lamar on March 5 with an exhibition against the Cardinals.
