SAN ANTONIO — For the second straight season, the St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team won its season finale against rival St. Edward's, defeating the Hilltoppers 60-57 on Saturday afternoon.
The Rattlers end the season with a 14-14 record and a 10-12 mark in Lone Star Conference play, while the Hilltoppers finish 11-20 overall and 7-14 in league action. Neither team qualified for the LSC Tournament, which takes eight teams.
Before the game, senior
Stina Svilberg (Tallinn, Estonia) was honored for her contributions to the program over the past two years. She scored nine with four rebounds, two steals and an assist in her final game.
Freshman
Raynne Malik (London, Ontario, Canada) collected the fifth double-double of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds and added two blocked shots to end her first year with 56, which is the fourth-highest total in St. Mary's single-season history.
Fellow freshman
Christin Callens (Houston) became the first-ever freshman to score 400 points in a season, leading the team with 15 points. She ends her initial campaign with 402 points after breaking the freshman scoring record on Wednesday at St. Ed's.
Junior
Imani Ivery (Houston) dished out a career-best seven assists to lead the game, and she chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.
The Rattlers did an extremely good job of sharing the basket, recording 16 assists on 20 made baskets, and they won the rebound battle, 36-to-31. StMU also shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line, draining 15 of 18 attempts.
St. Mary's also shot 40 percent from the floor and 29.4 from the arc (5-17), while holding the Hilltoppers to 21.1 from beyond the arc (4-19).
