SAN ANTONIO — A tough second quarter proved to be the difference for the St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team against the second-ranked team in the country, Texas Woman's, as they lost 58-45 on Saturday afternoon.
The Rattlers (11-11, 7-9) outscored the Pioneers (23-1, 16-1) 40-to-37 in the other three quarters, once again pushing a nationally-ranked team to the very end.
Freshman
Christin Callens (Houston) led the Rattlers with 13 points, while junior
Imani Ivery (Houston) added 11 points and three assists, and freshman
Raynne Malik (London, Ontario) led the team with nine rebounds. Freshman
Tiara Louis (San Antonio) scored eight and led the game with three steals.
TWU senior Ashley Ingram recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Scout Huffman scored 14, and Gabby Elliott added 12 points and seven rebounds.
All nine Rattlers scored and had at least one rebound, and seven of the nine who played dished out one or more assists.
St. Mary's remains at home, hosting Oklahoma Christian at 5:30 on Thursday and Cameron on Saturday at 1 p.m.
