SAN ANTONIO — Offense was at a premium for both teams at the end of a long week, but Colorado Christian managed a 1-0 victory over St. Mary's University Softball on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (4-6) scored their run in the top of the first, and then the defenses went to work, as the two teams managed only eight hits combined the rest of the way, four for each team.

Senior
Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) was tagged with a tough-luck loss for the Rattlers (5-6) as she allowed one run on two hits through two innings. Junior
Ariella Saenz (Pharr, Texas) pitched the middle two frames, scattering four hits, and senior
Madeline Bloom (Poway, Calif.) needed only seven pitches to get through the sixth and seventh innings in shutout fashion.

Emma Duncan collected the win in the circle, pitching six innings, allowing three hits with four walks and she struck out three. Hanna Espinoza recorded her second save of the year, allowing one hit in the seventh.

The Rattlers begin Lone Star Conference play on Friday, spending Valentine's Day at Midwestern State for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
