Women's Tennis Finally Returns to Action

NET POINTS

•    St. Mary's Women's Tennis hosts a pair of Red River Athletic Conference teams over the weekend, playing Our Lady of the Lake for Alumni Day at 2 p.m., followed with the first-ever match against Louisiana Christian on Saturday at Noon.

•    Friday is supposed to be partly cloudy with highs near 80 in San Antonio. There is no chance of precipitation and winds will be out of the Southeast at 5-6 miles per hour. Saturday will be much of the same with highs near 85.

•    The Rattlers swept Schreiner in the opening match of the season and won a thrilling 4-3 decision over UTRGV in an exhibition game. 

•    St. Mary's had three matches canceled due to inclement weather, as the entire Blue & Gold Crossover Tournament hosted by Central Oklahoma was canceled. The Rattlers have added Eastern Florida State on March 11 during the Spring Break trip to help make up for the cancellations.

•    Sophomores Gia Posito and Selina Wu were both named Players to Watch by the Lone Star Conference at the start of the spring season. Posito went 6-2 during the fall in doubles play, while Wu is the reigning ITA South Central Region Rookie of the Year.

•    Both junior Stela Sifuentes and sophomore Selina Wu tied for the team lead with 10 victories during the fall tournament season. Wu added 11 doubles victories to pace the team.

•    Junior Stela Sifuentes fought back from an opening round loss at the ITA South Central Regional to win the consolation finals. Sifuentes went 5-1 over the three days, winning all five matches in straight sets, including a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory in the consolation finals over Guadalupe Tocci from Texas A&M Kingsville.

•    Both Stela Sifuentes and Alessia Terlizzi were named to the CSC Academic All-District team at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. Both players also earned honorable mention All-Lone Star Conference honors.
