AUSTIN, Texas — Despite the 11th double-double of the year by senior
Lachlan Bofinger, the St. Mary's University Men's Basketball team couldn't overcome the hot shooting from beyond the arc by rival St. Edward's on Wednesday night, falling 80-73.
Bofinger, a fifth-year senior from Sydney, Australia, led all players with 19 points and 11 rebounds and paced the Rattlers (19-8, 16-5) with five assists and two blocked shots. Junior
Damani Claxton (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 16, and guard
Malcolm Steadman (Union City, Calif.) chipped in 10.
The Hilltoppers (19-11, 12-8) connected on 12 three-pointers in the game, making 60 percent from the arc, and both Mason Courtney and Conor Mcmanus connected on 4-of-5 for 16 and 18 points, respectively.
The game was physical, as 14 of the 18 players who saw time on the court committed at least one foul, and 15 of the 18 got fouled at least once. The two clubs also combined for 31 turnovers and 13 blocked shots.
St. Mary's shot .439 for the game, .471 (8-17) from the three-point line and 60 percent at the free throw line (15-25). The Hilltoppers shot .492 from the floor and .526 from the free throw line (10-19).
The two teams close out the regular season in the final edition of the Battle of the Saints on Saturday at 3 p.m. The game will be Senior Day for the Rattlers – and the five seniors will be honored at the conclusion of the women's game.
