SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team shut out Schreiner in the spring season opener, 7-0.
The Rattlers took an early lead with a commanding doubles performance. At number three, senior
Paula Garrote (Cartagena, Spain) and junior
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) didn't drop a game in their 6-0 shutout win.
The top two lines of sophomore
Janel Ospanova (Karaganda, Kazakhstan) and junior
Stela Sifuentes (Eagle Pass, Texas) and junior
Gia Posito (Houston) and sophomore
Selina Wu (San Gabriel, Calif.) each won by identical 6-1 scores.
The Rattlers carried the momentum over to singles, as Garrote didn't drop a game at number four for the first singles point, and the 2-0 lead. Moments later, Terlizzi completed her double bagel win at number two. Ospanova clinched the team victory for the Rattlers with her 6-0, 6-1 win at line three.
Wu dropped one game in each set for the 6-1, 6-1 victory. Bucco Paolasso didn't waste any time in her 6-0, 6-0 victory at line six and senior
Elisa Rodriguez (Houston) wrapped things up with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number five.
The Rattlers host UTRGV for an exhibition on Thursday, Feb. 6 and then head to Edmond, Okla., for the Gold & Blue Crossover in Edmond, Feb. 14-16.
