SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Volleyball team survived a back-and-forth match on Friday evening, winning in four sets over Western New Mexico, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 25-22 in the penultimate match of the regular season.
The Rattlers (14-12, 11-5) collected 12 more kills than the visiting Mustangs (12-16, 6-10) in a match that saw 25 ties and 13 lead changes.
Senior libero
Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) recorded 29 digs on the night and passed the 2,000-career dig milestone early in the second set. She is only the second player in school history to have more than 2,000 digs in a career, and she now has 2,026.
The Rattler offense was extremely balanced as the five hitters recorded between eight and 14 kills in the match, led by sophomore
Taylor Alston (San Antonio) and senior
Laurene Robinson (Bedford, Texas) with 14 each. Senior middle blocker
Landry Cate (Hot Springs, Ark.) posted a career-high nine kills and led the team with three blocks.
The defending Lone Star Defensive Player of the Week,
Dallasstar Johnson (San Antonio) hit .533 in the match, recording eight kills on 15 swings with no errors.
Junior setter
Haleigh Wilk (Salado, Texas) tallied her fourth double-double in the last five matches with 36 assists and 11 digs, while senior
Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) added her 14th double-double of the year with 10 kills and 11 digs. Senior
Isabella Waggoner (Texas City, Texas) also chipped in 10 digs.
The Rattlers host Sul Ross State on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. The Lobos were swept in Austin on Friday by St. Edward's.
