Five Score in Double Digits for WBB in OT Victory

SAN ANTONIO — Five players scored in double figures as the St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team sank 9-of-10 at the free throw line in overtime to defeat Texas A&M International 76-71 on Sunday afternoon.

Half of the team's free throws on the day came in the extra period, as they were 18-for-24 (75%). The Rattlers (7-5, 3-3) also made a season-high 10 three-pointers, shooting 37 percent (10-27). For the game, the Gold and Blue connected on 40.7 percent from the floor, improving to 7-0 this season when hitting the 40 percent threshold.

Freshman Raynne Malik (London, Ontario, Canada) recorded the first double-double of her career, collecting career-highs in both points and rebounds with 13 each. She scored six of her points in OT, hitting all four of her free throw tries, and blocked a shot with 2:10 left that led to a pair of free throws and the lead, which the Rattlers never relinquished.

Junior Quezia Bertoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also posted a career-high in scoring with a team-high 17. The guard was a perfect 3-for-3 from the arc and 5-for-9 from the floor. Sophomore guard Andrea Montesinos (Valencia, Spain) drained four triples, hitting all four in the first half en route to a career-high 13 points. She also added a game-high six assists, tying her high, and took a pair of charges. Montesinos is the first player to make four three-pointers for the Rattlers since Bella Hughes (4-6) did so at UAFS on Jan. 12, 2023.

Not to be outdone, freshman Tiara Louis (San Antonio) also posted a career-high in scoring, more than doubling her previous high of five with 13, draining three triples. She and senior Stina Svilberg (Tallinn, Estonia) were tied for second on the team with four assists each.

Rounding out the five in double figures in points was freshman Christin Callens (Houston) with 10, who has scored 10 or more in 11 of the 12 games this season.

St. Mary's out-rebounded the Dustdevils (2-11, 1-6) by 12, 48-to-36, and recorded 20 assists on 24 made baskets. The two teams were tied 10 times with four lead changes.

The Rattlers head out on the road for a four-game stretch, beginning on Thursday, Jan. 9 at No. 2 Texas Woman's. The Pioneers defeated Oklahoma Christian, 65-53 on Sunday afternoon.
