Pau Mateu-Deya has been named the Lone Star Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Mateu-Deya, a senior transfer from Marratxi, Balearic Islands, Spain, was one of the anchors on a defense that allowed only four shots on goal by the opponents in a pair of wins last week over Academy of Art (3-0) and Texas A&M International (2-1).Â
He also headed in the second goal for the Rattlers on Saturday, scoring on a corner kick in the 42nd minute.
It is his first goal of the year for St. Mary's and his first two points of the season. He has started five of the six games and played all 90 minutes in each of the last three.
Mateu-Deya and the Rattlers head to UT Tyler on Wednesday and host Midwestern State on Saturday in the final two non-conference matches of the year. Both games are slated to start at 5 p.m.
