More Records Fall for Volleyball in Sweep over Eagles

SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's University Volleyball team had an extremely effective night at the net in a sweep over Oklahoma Christian, 25-20, 30-28, 25-20 to open the LSC Preview Tournament.

The Rattlers (6-3) hit .303 for the match, had a well-balanced attack throughout and broke several school records in the win. The StMU defense also out-dug the Eagles (7-2) 79-to-67 on the evening.

StMU's 60 kills and 59 assists both break the school's record in a three-set match in the modern rally scoring format (since 2008), while the 79 digs rank third.

Senior setter Cali Nims (Corpus Christi, Texas), the Lone Star Conference Setter of the Week, collected a career-high and school record (rally format) 53 assists and did a great job of spreading the ball to her hitters as four tallied between 30 and 33 attacks. Nims also posted the 33rd double-double of her career with 14 digs.

Junior Dallasstar Johnson (San Antonio) recorded a career-high 16 kills to lead all players, and she hit .484 after having only one hitting error (16-1-31). She added a match-high three blocks.

Senior Alicia Virthe (Orlando, Fla.) was one kill behind Johnson, notching 15 and hitting .300 (15-6-30), while both outside hitters Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) and Laurene Robinson (Bedford, Texas) added 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Junior libero Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) led the match with 26 digs, while Withers added 15. Both Rattlers have recorded double digits in digs in all nine matches this season. The 26 digs by Koehl tie for fifth on the three-set match rally record list.

Both OC outside hitters Riley Daugherty and Chloe Jones recorded 11 kills each to lead the Eagles. Oklahoma Christian only had seven unforced errors on offense in the match, hitting .225 (42-10-142).

In the first match of the tournament, St. Edward's defeated Cameron in four sets.

St. Mary's will face Cameron (0-8) at 6 p.m., while the Hilltoppers will square off with Oklahoma Christian at 3 p.m.
