SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Softball team won its fourth-straight series with a 6-0 shutout victory over Oklahoma Christian on Friday afternoon.
Â
The Rattlers (29-19, 24-12 Lone Star Conference) took two of three from the Eagles (29-20, 24-15 Lone Star), winning the final two games.
Â
Junior
Madeline Bloom (Poway, Calif.) limited the Eagles to just two hits on the day in her six innings of work to improve to 5-6 in the circle. Junior
Savannah Youngblood (Kingwood, Texas) retired the side in order in the seventh to close out the victory.
Â
In the final home games of their career, seniors
Reba Reyes (Brownsville, Texas) and
Ericka Gomez (Stafford, Texas) were 2-for-3 with one run scored each. Reyes also collected another RBI on the season, bringing her total to 40. Sophomore
Raegan Tennill (Corpus Christi, Texas) was also 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
Â
Senior
Lauren Gonzales (San Antonio) walked, stole second, moved to third on a fly out down the right field line by senior
Mackenzie Dugi (St. Hedwig, Texas) and scored on a Reyes single between a diving third baseman and short stop for the game's initial run in the bottom of the first.
Â
Dugi kept the Eagles off the scoreboard in the third inning with a rocket throw home to junior
Jamison Holder (Magnolia, Texas) at the plate, who made the tag for the final out and kept the game at 1-0.
Â
In the top of the sixth, Reyes singled to center. Gomez beat out a bunt and Reyes hustled all the way to third. After a pitching change, Holder drew a walk after 12 pitches to load the bases and sophomore
Abigail Dela Rosa (La Grange, Texas) came into pinch run. Tennill laced a double to left center to clear the bases and stretch the lead to 4-0. With one out, junior
Lauryn Ramos (Marion, Texas) doubled to shallow centerfield, plating Tennill and Ramos scored on a sacrifice bunt down the third base line by senior
Destiny Salinas (San Antonio).
Â
The Rattlers close out the regular season on an extremely rough road trip. StMU starts a three-game series at UT Tyler on Tuesday and then heads west to face Eastern New Mexico for three starting on Friday afternoon. Seeding for the Lone Star Conference Tournament will be announced on Saturday, April 27 in the evening.
