Softball Completes Series Sweep of Falcons

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Softball team completed the season sweep over UT Permian Basin on Friday with a third-consecutive run-rule contest, 9-1.

Senior Reba Reyes (Brownsville, Texas) kept the hot bat, going 2-for-3 on the day with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Both seniors Mackenzie Dugi (St. Hedwig, Texas) and Ericka Gomez (Stafford, Texas) drove in two runs, Dugi's coming on a two-run home run in the first inning.

The home run was the fourth of the year for Dugi, as she moves into second on the team in long balls.

Junior Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) evened her season record at 4-4 with the victory in the circle. She pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts. Fellow junior Savannah Youngblood (Kingwood, Texas) gave up only one hit and fanned on over the final 1 2/3 frames.

During the series, Head Coach Donna Fields was able to use her entire active bench of fielders as freshmen Elizabeth Soliz and Samiya Johnson, both from Corpus Christi, and sophomore Madison Magaro (San Antonio) all had their first at bats of the season.

The Rattlers head out on the road for the next two series, heading to Denton to face Texas Woman's on April 5-6 and Tyler to take on #6 UT Tyler on April 9-10.
