Baseball Starts Series With Javelinas Off On Right Foot

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Baseball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 9-3 victory over Texas A&M Kingsville on Thursday night at Dickson Stadium.

The Rattlers (13-18, 11-18 Lone Star Conference) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and never trailed, though the Javelinas (21-14, 19-14 Lone Star) scored all three in the top of the third to cut their deficit to one. StMU answered with one in the bottom half of the inning and added three runs in the sixth inning and one in the eighth for the 9-3 final.

Senior Javier De Alejandro (San Antonio) finally broke into the win column (1-5) after pitching five innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Junior Carlos Flores Jr. (San Antonio) earned his first save of the year, working the final four innings in scoreless fashion. He only gave up three hits and fanned four without walking a single batter.

The Rattlers scored nine runs on 16 hits with three walks and two hit batters. Senior Easton Parrish (La Vernia, Texas) was 4-for-5 with three RBI, while Jacob Elizondo (San Antonio) and Devin Goins (San Antonio) each had three-hit days and junior Brendan Concannon (Flower Mound, Texas) and senior RJ Galvan (Alice, Texas) each had a pair of base knocks.

St. Mary's continued to hit the ball well, collecting five doubles and one triple in the game. Last week at Texas A&M International the Rattlers had 15 doubles, one triple and five home runs in the four games.

The two teams return to the diamond for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday and conclude the series at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
