SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team fought tough against #26 Lubbock Christian but ended up short on the scoreboard, falling 5-2.
Â
"This was a tough loss," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "Doubles just didn't happen for us, and we need that momentum point to kickstart our singles. We did battle in singles but that doesn't get the job done. We're going to have to make adjustments this week in doubles to find some combos that will work better outside of practice matches."
Â
Lubbock Christian scored the first four points of the match, clinching with the victory at number two singles before the Rattlers broke into the scoring column on court five with a 6-4, 6-2 win by sophomore
Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany).
Â
Senior
Nicolas Llosa (Lima, Peru) won his opening set 6-3 on court three and Mattia Ghedin came back for a 6-1 win in set two, setting up the tiebreak. The pair played international doubles scoring and went back-and-forth before Ghedin finally won 11-9.
Â
Senior
Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) won his second consecutive match, shutting out Herman Aguirre in the first set tiebreaker, 7-0, and then winning 6-4 in the second set on court four for the second Rattlers point.
Â
The Rattlers remain at home, hosting a pair of Patriots next week as UT Tyler comes to town on Friday at 1 p.m. and DBU will be at Rohrbach Tennis Stadium at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
