ARLINGTON, Texas — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Hawai'i Pacific on Sunday morning at the Arlington Tennis Center.
Â
The Rattlers fall to 2-4 on the young season after having Saturday's match at UT Dallas canceled due to the rain that swept through Texas.
Â
"It's too bad yesterday's match was rained out at UTD because I think that would have helped us today," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "The men really needed the doubles point and fell short one break of serve, basically. They all put up a solid fight in the singles so the momentum for them is building for the upcoming conference matches."
Â
Due to the rain, the teams played championship clinch format, meaning the match was called once a team victor was established.
Â
The Sharks (6-0) won at both number one and three doubles for the first point of the morning, while the second team of senior
Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) and
Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) were locked in a 5-4 battle.
Â
All three unfinished singles matches saw the Sharks win in tiebreakers and were tied at 2-2 or 3-2 in the second set when the match ended. The other three were decided in straight sets.
Â
The Rattlers turn their attention to Lone Star Conference play, squaring off against #20 Midwestern State at 2 p.m. on Friday and #17 Lubbock Christian at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Rohrbach Tennis Stadium.
