Reyes Bomb Not Enough in Softball's Loss at MSUD

DENVER, Colo. — After learning yesterday of a schedule change and jumping on a bus to Colorado, the St. Mary's University softball team made an uncharacteristic six errors in a 12-3 loss at MSU Denver on Thursday night.

Due to impending storms in the Denver Metro area, the single game against the Roadrunners moved from Sunday to Thursday. The Rattlers (3-5) will play at doubleheader at #21 Colorado Christian on Friday at noon (Mountain) before returning to Denver to face MSUD (3-3) on Saturday at noon, with the contingency of moving the games to Sunday.

The Roadrunners jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first after the Rattlers committed a pair of errors and had two passed balls, but StMU responded immediately.

Junior Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) led off the second with a four-pitch walk and senior Destiny Salinas (San Antonio) entered to run. Senior Ericka Gomez (Stafford, Texas) singled to left field and the pair pulled off a successful double steal for the first stolen bases of the season against MSUD. Senior Reba Reyes (Brownsville, Texas) launched a ball over the right field wall for the team's first long ball of the season and knot the score at 3-3.

Five hits, four errors and aggressive base running gave the Roadrunners an 11-3 lead in the bottom of the second inning. MSUD tacked on one run in the bottom of the fourth for the 12-3 win.

Sophomore Breanna Ford (Corpus Christi, Texas) took her second-straight loss in the circle (3-2_. She surrendered five earned runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout in one inning. Sophomore Emily Ayala (San Antonio) pitched the final three innings, giving up one earned run on four hits with one strikeout.
