Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision to Southern Arkansas

TYLER, Texas — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Southern Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at TJC Brooksides.

"Overall, it was a very competitive match," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "We matched up well at many positions, but we were just a little overpowered at times."

The Rattlers' (1-1) tandem of Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) and Bernhard Hauer (Vienna, Austria) were the lone doubles team to come away victorious, posting the 6-3 win at No. 2, giving the Muleriders (4-2) the early 1-0 lead.

Trailing 2-0, senior Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) put the Rattlers on the board with his 6-2, 6-4 victory at the fourth position.

Senior Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) used two late breaks of serve to win in straight sets at number three, winning 7-5, 7-5 for the Rattlers second point of the day.

Both Anton and junior Alvaro Soler (Alicante, Spain) won their first sets with a 6-4 score before dropping the final two sets.

The Rattlers face Ouachita Baptist at TJC Brooksides at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.
