Men's Basketball Comeback Stalls Late

OKLAHOMA CITY — The St. Mary's University Men's Basketball team had opportunities at Oklahoma Christian on Thursday night but made only one of its final 13 shots to drop an 84-73 decision.

The Rattlers (10-13, 6-11 Lone Star Conference) had four score in double figures as the team rallied from a 12-point deficit, 57-45, with 14:26 remaining and knotted the score at 64, 66, 69 and 70, but the hard-fought comeback seemed to take a lot out of the team as the Eagles (12-12, 9-9 Lone Star) used an eight-point run from 3:12 to 1:22 to ice the game.

Senior Keith Dinwiddie (Los Angeles) scored 16 to lead the team, while both senior Lachlan Bofinger (Sydney, Australia) and senior Edward Manuel (Lake Charles, La.) scored 11 and junior Franklin Agu (London, England) chipped in 10. Bofinger also led the team with eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end of the floor.

Senior Jalon Johnson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) added another seven assists to his soaring season total (108) and Dinwiddie had three steals for the most in the contest.

The two teams were tied eight times during the night and saw six lead changes throughout. The Rattlers bench again outscored the opposition, scoring 29 compared to 24 for OC.

Hunter Staten, who scored the first 10 points in the game for the Eagles, led the team with 24, nine rebounds and six blocked shots. Four other Eagles also hit double digits in scoring as 77 of their 84 points came from five players.

The Rattlers wrap up their four-game road swing at UAFS on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Lions upset St. Edward's on Thursday evening, 75-69, winning two straight.
