WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Despite a career-best 16 points by junior
Quezia Bertoni, the St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team went scoreless over the final two minutes of the game to drop a heart-breaking 61-56 decision at Midwestern State University on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams were struck by the turnover bug, combining for 41 miscues in the game as the two squads went back and forth throughout the game. The 40 minutes featured 14 lead changes and seven ties.
The Rattlers (6-4, 2-2 Lone Star) did a great job sharing the basketball, recording 13 assists on 17 made baskets. Sophomore
Andrea Montesinos (Valencia, Spain) recorded a career-high six assists, while Bertoni, a junior guard from Sao Paulo, Brazil posted a career-best five.
Freshman
Raynne Malik (London, Ontario, Canada), who missed the game at Lubbock Christian on Thursday, returned to the lineup with four blocked shots and a team-best six rebounds. Junior
Imani Ivery (Houston) tied Malik with four swats as the Rattlers blocked nine on the afternoon.

Sheridan Kavanagh (Melbourne, Australia), who only played two minutes in the first half, came out and drained eight points in the second half with two three-pointers and two free throws in 13 minutes of play. Fellow returner
Stina Svilberg (Tallinn, Estonia) tied Kavanagh for second on the team with eight points, scoring all of hers before halftime.
The Mustangs (3-7, 1-3) were led by Zarria Carter with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Kerbie Cash scored 12 and Carisa Cortez chipped in 10. The MSU starters scored all but nine points throughout the day.
St. Mary's won the battle of the boards, 36-to-35, though MSU grabbed 13 on the offensive glass, edging out the Rattlers' 12.
The Rattlers close out the calendar year on Dec. 21 in an exhibition game at Tarleton State and will return to Lone Star Conference play on Jan. 3, hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville, which had a big win over West Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon.
