SAN ANTONIO — Five members of the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team were honored on the D2CCA All-South Central Region team, the association announced on Tuesday.
Â
Junior goalkeeper
Johnny Thurbin (Lingfield, Surrey, England), junior defender
Luke Mulkey (Parker, Texas) and senior defender
Lewis Nohar (Cumnock, Scotland) were all named to the First Team, while sophomore forward
Gael Gallegos (Laredo, Texas) and senior midfielder
Sofian Maghouz (London, England) were honored on the Second Team.
Â
The five selections to the D2CCA All-Region team are the second-highest total in school history, as the 2022 team had six selected to the two teams.
Â
Thurbin ranks fifth nationally in goalkeeper minutes played (1820) and shutouts (9), 14th in goals against average (0.791), and 20th in save percentage (0.802). He made a total of 65 saves on the season, and broke the St. Mary's single-season record for victories with 12. Thurbin was named to the LSC Goalkeeper of the Year, the LSC All-Academic Team, and a CSC Academic All-District pick.
Â
Mulkey played every minute of the 2024 season, totaling 1820 minutes. He was a First Team All-Lone Star Conference selection and was recently named to the CSC Academic All-District team for the second straight year, becoming only the second in school history to earn two All-District nods.Â
Â
Nohar was also a Lone Star All-Conference First Team selection. He was one of the most offensive defenders in the league, finishing second on the team with 10 points. He scored four goals – including the lone goal against DBU to clinch the regular season title for the Rattlers – and added two assists.
Â
Gallegos led the Rattlers with 20 points, scoring a team-best eight goals with four assists. He was named to the LSC All-Conference Second Team after ranking fourth in the league in points per game (1.00). His eight goals rank second in the league, trailing only the region's Player of the Year, Mere Escobar.
Â
Maghouz rounds out the Rattlers' selections, earning Second Team All-Region honors after being named the conference's Newcomer of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference pick. He led the team with five assists and finished third on the club with nine points.Â
Â
The Rattlers earned three of the five First Team selections by the Lone Star Conference, while teams from the RMAC received the other eight. Those three named to the First Team will be forwarded to the All-American ballot, which will be announced in December.
