RICHARDSON, Texas — After scoring a goal in the win over Lubbock Christian, and helping shut down a pair of Lone Star Conference offenses, St. Mary's University senior defender
Gianluca Fiorini has earned the LSC Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Tuesday.
Fiorini, a senior transfer from Scandiano, Italy, helped the Rattlers post a pair of clean sheets to start LSC play 2-0 and improve to 6-2-2 on the year. He played all 180 minutes against LCU and Eastern New Mexico and he and the defense allowed only three shots on goal for the week.
Fiorini is the second Rattler to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, joining fellow senior
Pau Mateu-Deya on the award winners list.Â
StMU hosts St. Edward's on Saturday in the annual Battle of the Saints at 7 p.m. The two teams met earlier this season in Austin and ended in a scoreless draw in non-conference play.
