#16 Men’s Soccer Collects Second Straight Clean Sheet to Stay Undefeated in LSC Play

SAN ANTONIO — No. 16 St. Mary's University Men's Soccer scored another two early goals in the 3-0 win over Sul Ross State on Wednesday night to improve to 6-0 in Lone Star Conference action.

It is the second straight clean sheet and the sixth consecutive victory for the Rattlers as they improve to 10-2-2 overall.

"This was a good performance tonight," said Head Coach Johnny Clifford. "We knew that this one could be tricky, and I challenged the boys to be elite defenders tonight. We did that for sure and scored some really good goals on the other end."

In the 16th minute, sophomore Gael Gallegos (Laredo, Texas) took a corner from the far side of the pitch and found senior Bradley Greene (Essex, England) just inside the bar, and he flicked the header into the opposite corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Seven minutes later, junior Adam Aboohamidi (Wolfforth, Texas) crossed the ball into the box, finding senior Sofian Maghouz (London, England) who booted the ball into the lower right corner for a 2-0 advantage.

In the 57th minute, Aboohamidi gained possession deep in the Lobos (6-6, 2-4) territory and beat four defenders down the pitch to take a shot that SRS goalkeeper Benjamin Aviles saved and deflected back into the box. Senior defender Lewis Nohar (Cumnock, Scotland) blasted the rebound into the lower right corner for the third goal of the night.

It is the fifth time this season the Rattlers have scored three goals in a contest, and the team has scored multiple goals in each of the last four matches.

Junior keeper Johnny Thurbin posted his seventh clean sheet of the year, making three saves — all in the second half.

St. Mary's tied a season-high with 26 shots in the game, matching the total from the opening game of the year against Our Lady of the Lake.

"We now have a huge test away from home against a good OC team," Clifford said.

The Rattlers face Oklahoma Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma City. The Eagles lost 1-0 at St. Edward's on Wednesday afternoon.
