WICHITA FALLS, Texas — It hasn't been an easy few weeks for the St. Mary's University Volleyball team as the injury bug has hit the team hard, but they showed they'll do whatever it takes to keep playing together in a straight-sets loss at Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon, 14-25, 19-25, 23-25.
Junior
Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) moved to the middle blocker position for a portion of the match to help fill in the depleted position, while freshman
Taylor Alston (San Antonio) made the second start of her career and responded with a team-high 11 kills, hitting .320 (11-3-25) on the day.
Libero
Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) continued to put up staggering numbers, recording 21 digs (7.00/set) to lead the match, and senior setter
Cali Nims (Corpus Christi, Texas) posted another double-double with 34 assists and 12 digs.
Senior
Alicia Virthe (Orlando, Fla.) was second on the club with nine kills and extended her streak of matches with at least one service ace to six and 15 of the last 16. Koehl led the club with two aces, tying for match-high honors.
The teams were tied 17 times in the three sets and saw seven lead changes, with 10 ties and five lead switches happening in the third and final set.
The resilient Rattlers remain on the road next week, facing Eastern New Mexico on Friday and West Texas A&M on Saturday.Â
