#16 Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Contest to #5 MSU

SAN ANTONIO – The comeback by the #16 St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team fell short against fifth-ranked Midwestern State University on Wednesday night at Sigma Beta Chi Field as the Rattlers fell 2-1.
 
The nation's leading scorer, Mere' Escobar, scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute to move the Mustangs to 6-0-1 on the season. The contest was a non-conference affair between the teams.
 
The Rattlers (4-2-1) saw freshman Gael Gallegos (Laredo, Texas) score the first goal of his career on a penalty kick in the 84th minute.
 
MSU doubled up the Rattlers on shots, 16-8, though the Gold and Blue managed seven in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Andre Schlaefli (Katy, Texas) made four saves – including three after the break.
 
St. Mary's renews the rivalry with St. Edward's on Saturday in Austin at 1 p.m. in another non-conference match.
