SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team fell just short of completing the comeback against Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 3-2 decision at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

The Lady Choctaws (1-0-1) scored first in the 27th minute, but the Rattlers (1-1-0) responded less than three minutes later as sophomore
Shelby Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas) stole a pass off the throw-in and found a driving
Juni Ejere (Weatherford, Texas) to knot the score at 1-1.

The teams came out of the locker room after halftime showing a little more intensity, combining for three goals. Mississippi College scored twice within nine minutes, scoring the second on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute and the third at the 71:02 mark.

In the 87th minute, sophomore
Eliza Cerda (Wolfforth, Texas) headed in a goal off a double assist from senior
Love' Tovar (El Paso, Texas) and Paniagua to cut the deficit in half, but the Rattlers were unable to score in the final three minutes.

The Rattlers hit the road for the next two matches, traveling to Salt Lake City for matches against Hawaii Pacific on Friday, Sept. 8 and Westminster on Sunday, Sept. 10.
