Women's Soccer Works Fourth-Straight Draw

SAN ANTONIO — With only 12 minutes remaining in the match, the St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team scored the tying goal to work a draw with University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Shelby Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas) found a streaking Alexis Truitt (Boerne, Texas), who headed in the goal for the 1-1 tie score in the 78th minute of the game. It is the fourth assist of the season for Paniagua, who also has three goals, and the first goal of the year for Truitt.

The Mountain Lions (2-2-2) got on the scoreboard early when Jessica Rockwell passed to Emily Aguilar for the goal at the four-minute mark. The score remained 1-0 for 74 minutes until the Rattlers (1-1-4) knotted things up.

Both teams were more aggressive in the second half as they more than doubled their shots total from the first half. Each team took four shots in the first stanza, while the Mountain Lions took 11 in the second half and the Rattlers tried 10. Seven of the 10 shots for StMU were on target as Isabella Whitmore made six saves in the second half.

StMU goalkeeper Rebecca Difronzo (Bari, Italy) made three big saves after halftime to give her teammates a team to work the score.

The Rattlers turn their attention to Lone Star Conference play, hosting UT-Tyler on Wednesday, Sept. 20 in the opener for both teams. The Patriots are 2-1-2 on the year after collecting a scoreless draw at Harding on Saturday morning.
