OKLAHOMA CITY – Mother Nature interfered with the plans for St. Mary's Softball at Oklahoma Christian, halting game two midway through the second game of a scheduled doubleheader.
The Eagles (32-14, 27-13 Lone Star) won game one 3-2 and the Rattlers (31-22, 21-19 LSC) are leading 6-1 in the bottom of the third inning in the suspended contest. The two teams will resume the game at 11:30 on Saturday morning and follow with the third and final game of the regular season for both teams approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
The Rattlers jumped out to the early lead when sophomore
Kaylynne Ruiz (Eagle Pass, Texas) hit her second home run of the year with two outs in the fourth inning. Junior
Reba Reyes (Brownsville, Texas) was at second base when Ruiz left the park after reaching via walk and swiping second base.
The Eagles scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run by Kristen Whitehouse.
Senior
Catalina Cavazos (Houston) took the loss in the circle to fall to 15-8 overall. It was her 20th complete game of the season in 23 starts. She allowed three runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out four. She worked out of bases loaded jams in both the fourth and sixth innings, getting a pair of infield popups to end both frames.
The teams were in the third inning of the second game when the rains hit Oklahoma City.
