Baseball Series Finale Doesn't go Rattlers Way

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The St. Mary's Baseball team was unable to climb out of a big hole early, falling 12-4 at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sunday in the series finale.

The Rattlers (16-18, 14-18 Lone Star) posted a crooked inning with four runs in the eighth but were fighting back from a 9-0 hole after the Javelinas (22-16, 21-15 Lone Star) plated four in the first, one in the second and two each in the fourth and sixth. TAMUK also answered with three in the eighth for the 12-4 final.

Senior Brandon Broughton (Corpus Christi, Texas) hit a three-run home run in the eighth for his second long ball of the weekend and sixth of the year – knotting Clay Bradford (Atascocita, Texas) for the team lead. Bradford drove in the other run on a sacrifice fly. Senior Rudy Solis (El Paso, Texas) was 2-for-4 at the plate and junior Easton Parrish (LaVernia, Texas) drew two of the club's five walks.

Junior Karlo Kalifa (Round Rock, Texas) took the loss on the hill. He allowed four runs on two hits with one walk. Both freshman Kaleb Gauna (Hondo, Texas) and junior Brett Brown (Sinton, Texas) worked in relief.

St. Mary's hosts rival, St. Edward's for a four-game series beginning on Thursday due to the holiday weekend. Game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
