Baseball Drops Final Game at #3 Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The bottom portion of the lineup did the majority of the damage for the St. Mary's Baseball team on Sunday, but it wasn't enough in a 14-5 loss at #3 Angelo State in the final game of the series.

Hitters seven through nine in the lineup collected five of the team's six hits on the afternoon, including senior Rudy Solis going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. San Antonio natives Jake Elizondo and Ryan McGowen each drove in two runs and scored one run each out of the last two spots in the order.

Senior Josh Buske (San Antonio) surrendered six runs on three hits with four walks in one inning to fall to 0-2 on the year. The Rattlers (11-14, 10-14 Lone Star) used four other pitchers with only Matt Bundy (Whitehouse, Texas) keeping the Rams (26-4, 24-4 Lone Star) off the scoreboard.

Solis broke up the no hitter in the top of the fifth, leading off the frame with a single to centerfield. Junior Devin Goins (San Antonio) singled and Elizondo singled to right field, scoring Solis. McGowen became the 10th Rattler to hit a home run this season for the 7-3 tally.

The Rams answered with three in the fifth but the Rattlers got two of the runs back in the sixth. With two outs junior Easton Parrish (La Vernia, Texas), Solis, Goins and Elilzondo drew consecutive walks to score one and leave the bases loaded. A wild pitch plated Solis for a 9-5 score. Angelo State added three in the sixth and one in the seventh for the 14-5 final.

St. Mary's hosts Texas A&M International for a four-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. The Dustdevils split a four game set with Oklahoma Christian over the weekend.
