Comeback for Softball Falls Short

LUBBOCK, Texas – The St. Mary's Softball team plated one in the seventh inning, but were unable to mount the comeback, falling 7-3 on Saturday at #11 Lubbock Christian.

The Rattlers (20-11, 10-8 Lone Star) scored their three runs on four hits, while the Lady Chaps (24-8, 14-7 Lone Star) scored seven runs on 10 hits and were aided by two StMU miscues.

Freshman Raegan Tennill (Corpus Christi, Texas) drove in two of the team's three runs, hitting third in the lineup for the first time this season. Junior Lauren Gonzales (San Antonio) was also 1-for-3 and added another stolen base to her total, bringing her to 24-24 for the year.

Sophomore Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) took the loss in the circle, moving to 4-2. She allowed five runs on seven hits with one walk and two striekouts. Both Sara Robertson (Lorena, Texas) and Madeline Bloom (Poway, Calif.) worked in relief with Bloom retiring all three batters she faced.

St. Mary's returns home for a midweek series against Cameron, hosting the Aggies at 3 & 5 p.m. on Tuesday and 1 p.m. on Wednesday before heading back out for a three-game set at Angelo State.
