SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – The St. Mary's Women's Tennis team capped a perfect trip to Florida with a 6-1 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday.

The Rattlers, ranked 21st in the latest ITA Tennis poll, went 5-0 on the Spring Break trip winning all five matches in a five-day span to improve to 13-3 on the year.

Once again, the Gold & Blue swept all three doubles matches for the first point of the day. The teams finished in ladder order with
Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas) and
Kyndall Quiroz (San Antonio) winning 6-2 at #1,
Bailey Godwin (San Antonio) and
Angela Vargas (Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico) winning 6-1 at #2 and
Gabi Ioannou (Melbourne, Australia) and
Stela Sifuentes (Eagle Pass, Texas) winning 7-5 at #3.Â

"I'm glad our doubles got more aggressive this week," Director of Tennis
Bill Macom said. "It was a grind for them with some of the traveling and the doubleheader, but it benefited their level – which has increased."

After the Sailfish won their lone point at No. 3 singles, the Rattlers won the next five for the 6-1 final tally.

Penshorn remained undefeated in dual action, losing only two games at No. 1 singles over Alina Hoermann, 6-2, 6-0 to move to 15-0 on the year.

Ioannou won her second-straight bout, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against Elvira Edstrom and for the second consecutive day, Vargas clinched the team victory for the Rattlers, this time winning 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2.

Godwin won 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 6 for her sixth win in a row as she improved to 4-0 at the sixth spot. Her six-match winning streak is the second-longest active streak on the team behind Penshorn's 15.

Sifuentes wrapped up the match with her 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 decision at #5 singles. The true freshman has now won four straight to move to 9-2 on the year.

The Rattlers return to Lone Star Conference action next Friday at UT Tyler. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. The team then heads to DBU for a second-consecutive bout with a team of Patriots on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
