Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – The St. Mary's Men's Tennis team took control from the opening serve in doubles in a 6-1 win over Bentley in Florida on Wednesday afternoon.

The Rattlers improve to 8-4 with the win, winning their third-straight match, while the Falcons even their record at 3-3.

All three doubles teams won their sets, setting the tone early. Juniors Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) and Nicolas Llosa (Lima, Peru) won 6-2 for their third-straight win, while freshman Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) and senior Sebastian Azcui (La Paz, Bolivia) clinched the team point with a 6-3 win at #3.

Ryan Koth (Boerne, Texas) and Alvaro Soler (Alicante, Spain) needed a tiebreak, but won at #1 doubles, 7-6 (7-5).

"We did a great job attacking the net in doubles," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "Which is what we've been working on lately. Everyone handled the windy conditions during the singles, which was an improvement today as well."

Soler remained strong, winning in straight sets at No. 1, 6-3, 6-0, while Faryniarz dropped only two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 for the 3-0 Rattlers lead.

Sophomore Daniel Matheu Baldor (Madrid, Spain) scored the fourth point for the Gold & Blue, securing the win with his 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory at No. 3.

Junior Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) also needed a tiebreaker, winning in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at the fourth ladder position.

Llosa lost only three games at No. 6, winning 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 3-0 at the sixth-spot this season.

After dropping the first set 6-4, Koth got a late break of serve in the second set to knot the score at one-set each winning 7-5. He eventually fell in the third set tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-1).

The Rattlers return to action in Lake Nona, Florida on Thursday against St. Thomas Aquinas. It is the first-ever meeting between the teams.
