SAN ANTONIO – Facing one of the top pitchers in the Lone Star Conference in Ayden Alger, the St. Mary's Baseball team struggled to find any groove in a 12-0 loss to Lubbock Christian on Friday night.
Â
The Rattlers (8-10, 7-10 LSC) recorded only two hits on offense and the pitching staff allowed 15 free bases with 10 walks and five hit batters over seven innings.Â
Â
Senior
Clay Bradford (Atascocita, Texas) recorded one of the two hits to keep his streak of reaching base safely alive at all 18 games. He added another two outfield assists to his total, making a fantastic throw from right center to sophomore Jake Elizondo (San Antonio) at second base, who threw a rocket to
Rudy Solis (El Paso, Texas) in the second inning for the first out.
Â
In the third, the Rattlers turned a double play as Bradford fielded a ball in right, threw home in time for
Devin Goins (San Antonio) to tag out the runner trying for home. Goins then through back to
Easton Parrish (La Vernia, Texas) at first base to tag out the runner and end the inning.
Â
Freshman
Brody Ticer (San Antonio) made the first start of his collegiate career, and surrendered five runs on one hit. He walked one and hit three. The Rattlers used seven other pitchers on the night.
Â
Alger moved to 3-1 on the year for LCU in the win. He walked three and struck out six in his second complete game of the season.
Â
The Rattlers and Chaps take to the diamond on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader and conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
