Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short at LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – Caleb Jordan put on a show in Lubbock, scoring 29 points, however the St. Mary's Men's Basketball dropped a 77-69 heartbreaker to Lubbock Christian.

Jordan, a senior from Midlothian, Texas nailed a career-high six three-pointers and topped 25 points for the fourth-time this season and is now only two points shy of tying legendary coach Buddy Meyer for sixth on the school's career scoring chart.

Senior Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) added 13 points for the Rattlers (14-11, 11-9 Lone Star) and led the team with four assists. Senior Emmanuel Ewuzie (San Antonio) led the team with five rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Rattlers did a much better job of taking care of the basketball on Saturday, turning it over only seven times, after 16 at West Texas A&M on Thursday. No player had more than one miscue and StMU forced the Chaps into 11 turnovers.

Lubbock Christian led by as many as 19 in the game, 69-50 with 9:09 remaining, but the Rattlers outscored them 19-8 over the final nine minutes in attempting the comeback.

Russell Harrison led LCU with 22 points, while Rowan Mackenzie added a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

The Rattlers close out the regular season with a pair of games against rival, St. Edward's. The teams play in Austin on Tuesday and San Antonio on Thursday and both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. starts. Thursday will be Senior Night for the Ratters as the team honors Mamady Djikine, Ewuzie, Leonard, Parker Gettys and Jaron Presley.
